Autism Awareness

April is Autism Awareness month. Autism is a developmental disorder which results from a disorder of the human central nervous system. The autism awareness symbol is a puzzle piece or a ribbon with a puzzle print since autism is often described as a "puzzling" disorder. 1 in 166 of children will be diagnosed with Autism. It is the fastest growing serious developmental disability in the U.S. today. Sadly, the is no medical detection or cure for Autism.

And for those who don't know, I have a brother with Autism. Autism is a topic near and dear to my heart and is to many others. It is most likely that you know or have met someone who is autistic. I hope that one day they will find a cure or atleast find a way to prevent this disorder. I have made a stamp and hopefully some of you will show your support for Autism Awareness.

Thanks for any faves and comments! I read them all, thanks for sharing all your experiences with me! Since the stamp was made (over two years ago), so many have commented with their experiences with Autism (whether they have Autism or know someone who does) and discussed their views. Whether you are pro-'cure' or against 'cure', I completely respect your opinions. But what we all seem to agree on is the importance of Autism Awareness. I added that little blurb about "sadly there's no cure" because my brother's Autism affects his daily life. He will never be able to live alone, he cannot cook or bathe without some help. In his case, Autism severely impacts his daily life. But my brother is very intelligent. He has an amazing memory and is a very sweet person. That's why I'm pro-cure. I love my brother, I only want what's best for him.
